Archaeology. Excavation and experimentation at L'Esquerda Site

Organized by Universitt of Vic - Central University of Catalonia and the Private Foundation of l'Esquerda

Program:

  1. Systems and techniques of excavation and archaeological recording.
  2. Geology, sedimentology and archaeology.
  3. Planimetry and archaeological drawing.
  4. Analysis of micro-rests (palaeocarpology, anthracology, phytoliths).
  5. Analysis of micro-rests (fauna, ceramic typology).
  6. Restoration and conservation of material (in situ/laboratory).
  7. Experimental archaeology. Theory and practice.
  8. Practical archaeological excavations at the Iberian and Mediaeval site of L’Esquerda (Les Masies de Roda de Ter, Osona).


Dates: Segona week of July
Credits: UVic-UCC recognition equivalent to 3 elective credits or 1 ECTS.
Timetable: from 15 to 21 h.

Place: Archaeological Museum of L’Esquerda and Workshop-Laboratory of L’Esquerda (Roda de Ter).

Archaeology Internship 1

Organized by the University of Barcelona, in accord with the Private Foundation of L'Esquerda

Characteristics

Practical archaeology course for the Archaeology Degree at the University of Barcelona. Students work at the Mediaeval archaeological site of L’Esquerda. Therefore, they are confronted with the real work involved in an excavation campaign: setting up the grid, possible analyses prior to excavation, excavation, drawing of structures, cleaning of materials, etc. This course has its precedents in the Mediaeval Field Archaeology course that has been taught for ten consecutive years at L’Esquerda, from 2002 to 2011 (both included).

Timetable: from 8.00 to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00
Place: Archaeological site of L’Esquerda. L’Esquerda workshop-laboratory (Roda de Ter).
