The Team

Since 1977, systematic archaeological excavations have been carried out at the L’Esquerda Site. The excavations are part of the program of the Department of Mediaeval History of the University of Barcelona, with the corresponding permission of the Directorate-General for Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Catalonia. 

  • Direction of the Mediaeval area: Imma Ollich i Castanyer and Albert Pratdesaba i Sala 
  • Direction of the Iberian area: Montserrat de Rocafiguera i Espona

The working team is interdisciplinary and is made up of the following people:

  • Zooarchaeology: Jordi Martí y Àlex Valenzuela
  • General planimetry: Daniel Robles, Albert Pratdesaba, Cesc Bau y Cesc Maideu
  • Photography: Montserrat de Rocafiguera, Maria Ocaña y Imma Ollich
  • Palaeocarpology and anthracology: Carme Cubero
  • Sedimentology and chemical analysis: Consol Blanch
  • Physical anthropology: Antònia Díaz
  • Geology: David Serrat
  • Restoration: Carme Goula
  • Metallurgy: Oriol Amblàs
  • Radiocarbon: Joan S. Mestres
  • Material studies: Àngels Pujol
This team is updated every year and is increased with the participation and collaboration of students and graduates from various universities, who take part in the excavation campaigns and are trained in different specialities.

Opening Hours

  • Tuesday to Friday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Tuesdays (April 1st to November 1st): 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays: 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
