The new museum
Roda de Ter has restored the old Civil Guard barracks, located 85 m from the Esquerda archaeological site, as the site of the new Archaeological Museum. This building is located at the beginning of the Esquerda peninsula. It is a two-story construction built in 1910 and has a U-shaped floor plan with a central yard. The refurbishment work, financed by Roda de Ter town council and the 1% Cultural grant from the Ministry of Public Works, was completed at the end of June 2013.
The official presentation of the refurbishment took place on 28 June of 2013
On 30 July 2013, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, the company Cedinsa and Roda de Ter town council, for the application of the 1% Cultural fund from the Eix Transversal works, for the creation of the museography of the Museu Arqueològic de L’Esquerda.
In 2015, the process to move the project forward began. The company in charge of the museographic project was PASCUALS DESIGN, and the company EXPOMON produced the museography. The total investment is €400,000 before VAT.
Different teams of the municipal government of Roda de Ter have worked on this project, from 2010 until now, chaired by Antoni Llach, Jordi Serra, and Albert Serra.
On 1 December 2019 the President of the Catalonia Parliament, Quim Torra i Pla, inaugurated the permanent exhibition.
